Ten high school students and 2 teachers from Suankularb Wittayalai School

10 high school students and 2 teachers from Suankularb Wittayalai School, one of the most renowned national boys high schools in Bangkok, Thailand, joined a 5-day training tour to Osaka University from December 1 to December 7, 2019. This training tour aims to provide Thai high school students who wish to study in the fields of medicine, science, and engineering, with opportunities to draw a concrete image of studying in Japan in the future. Under the support of R.E.P, this training tour was planned and implemented by the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University, with the financial support of SAKURA Exchange Program in Science by Japan Science and Technology Agency.

On the first day of the training, students visited the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases and after they attended a seminar on microbiology and large-scale gene sequence analysis using next-generation sequencers, they visited laboratories and observed bacteria and the bacteria-infected cells with a confocal laser microscope. On the following days, they visited Osaka University School of Medicine, Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, Graduate School of Engineering Science, and International Center for Biotechnology, where they attended an explanation meetings and learned about the latest research results.  They also visited Osaka University International Education and Exchange Center, where they exchanged greetings with those international students from Thailand who study at different schools and graduate schools in Osaka University, and made a presentation to introduce Suankularb Wittayalai School. The training involves plenty of content, including cutting-edge research results. They listened to the explanation attentively and asked questions actively. We believe that this training tour will be an important experience for them to decide their future study. R.E.P. Foundation will continue to support this tour next year again.
